Ok, so I finished Ubik, and I absolutely loved it. I recently finished Androids and I was intrigued, but not astounded by Dick's style, but after reading Ubik, I can see why people are so fascinated with him. I will save my comments for our day (which day is it? the 12th?) But I do have some questions. I didn't want to post the questions on the page, insofar as to not distract other readers who haven't finished the book. So, if you want to help, just go to the comments section to read the questions. Thank you.

Questions:
1. I didn't understand the impetus behind getting Joe Chip and Co. to go to Luna. It had to do with some elaborate scheme involving Stanton Mick and how he needed assistance with something, I wasn't sure. If Joe Chip knew something was fishy, wouldn't he decline to go in the first place? Is that not his expertise? I'm pretty sure, I just wanted some further clarification on this.
2. How did the ending with Joe Chip money seem plausible. Is the connection between Runciter and her half-life status in accordance with the real world, or is there some underlying meaning that the reality Mr. Runciter has set really an Uber-Half life that now has been revealed to us by Mr Runciter. I'm not entirely sure.
Thanks for your help.
I took the end to signify that at some point, without his knowledge as to how and when, Mr. Runciter is dead. Perhaps that how it goes? One minute we're eating tacos ... the next we're eating tacos.
Oh, I liked it ... though I fought with it heavily at times .... a lot.
I never saw that angle. You know, now that you say that, I went back, and I can see it now. Thanks.
Yep, I took it the same: Runciter has died at some point and only realizes it when he sees the Joe Chip coin.
But, the part that threw me (and I confess I haven't gone back to figure out where I missed this) is how there are 2 Runciters: who is the dried up body in the coffin? I guess I'll go look at it again now and see if I can sort it out.
I did really like this book - it's the original Matrix.
BTW, RE: "..the impetus behind getting Joe Chip and Co. to go to Luna".
The motive was greed. Stanton Mick is rich and Runciter's biz is slow. Joe Chip says Runciter violated his own oft-stated rule on that one.
Thanks for your help, gentlemen. It got those burning embers in my brain finally extinguished - at least for the time being.
